Brando Improta, classe 1990 (foto). È un giovane regista e sceneggiatore campano. A soli 32 anni è già riuscito a farsi notare nel panorama del cinema italiano, ottenendo diverse nomination e premi in tante manifestazioni, non soltanto italiane.
L’abbiamo raggiunto telefonicamente per parlare del suo nuovo spettacolo “L’amore ai tempi del Covid” che terrà al Centro Arcobaleno di Fuorigrotta, a Napoli, venerdì 31 marzo e dei suoi progetti futuri.
Brando, come nasce la tua grande passione per il cinema?
«Buongiorno a voi. Nasce fin da piccolo. Un giorno stavo vedendo “La banda degli onesti” con Totò e Peppino De Filippo in televisione. Chiesi a mia madre come mai quelle persone facevano le cose strane che vedevo e lei mi rispose che erano attori, che imitare altri mestieri era il loro lavoro. Così pensai che dovesse essere bello fare quel lavoro, come una specie di gioco».
Laureato in Scienze della comunicazione, poi nel 2020 hai conseguito un’altra laurea in Cinema, teatro, danza e arti digitali alla Sapienza a Roma, e dopo ancora hai ottenuto un diploma alla scuola di cinema di Napoli in Filmmaking e Recitazione. Quanto sono stati importanti i tuoi studi nella tua attività cinematografica?
«Sono stati molto importanti. Sono sempre stato un curioso, ho sempre studiato manuali di regia e sceneggiatura, ma gli studi mi hanno permesso di approcciarmi all’argomento da un punto di vista professionale e di confrontarmi con persone che volevano fare lo stesso mestiere».
Hai detto di aver recitato anche con Carlo Verdone. Com’è stata quell’esperienza?
«Se qualche anno fa qualcuno mi avesse detto che avrei lavorato più volte di seguito con Carlo Verdone, gli avrei dato del matto. Con lui spesso si improvvisava ed era la cosa più bella».
Il 31 marzo sarai al Centro Arcobaleno di Fuorigrotta dove porterai in scena la tua ultima commedia “L’amore ai tempi del Covid”. Ce ne vuoi parlare?
«Sarà un viaggio divertente e interessante dove vedremo cosa faremmo se potessimo tornare indietro nel tempo e cambiare alcune cose della nostra vita. Forse mi butterei meno a capofitto in determinate situazioni, ma quello che non cambierei mai è la mia determinazione nell’andare avanti e superare ogni ostacolo, soprattutto quelli dati dall’imponderabilità dell’essere umano».
Per concludere, vuoi dirci qualcosa dei tuoi progetti futuri?
«Sì, a luglio scorso hanno avuto inizio le riprese del film “Ed è subito commedia”, che uscirà su Chili a maggio. È stata girata a Crotone. Si tratta di una commedia romantica all’italiana d’impostazione americana, diretta da me e prodotta dall’Associazione Volumineide. È una storia divertente e romantica, ma con agganci all’attualità e un pizzico di amarezza. I protagonisti della storia sono Giada e Marco, che si rincontrano dopo vent’anni a Crotone, dove lei gestisce un bar e lui fa il liutaio. Da bambini erano molto amici, poi si erano persi di vista, e nel ritrovarsi adulti affronteranno anche i problemi emersi nel crescere».
Al suo fianco, Veronica Maya nella parte di Fabiola, una fioraia con il quale il protagonista si confida quotidianamente. Una piccola introduzione alla storia dello sceneggiatore e regista Enrico Vanzina: con questa commedia si vuol creare una storia che possa far ridere ma al contempo riflettere. Ci sono molti richiami all’attualità, i due protagonisti sono legati l’uno all’altro precipitandosi in situazioni bizzarre ma anche molto umane e realistiche.

Interview/ Brando Improta: director and actor tells us about his latest show
Brando Improta, class of 1990 (photo) He is a young director and screenwriter from Campania. At only 32 years old, he has already managed to make a name for himself in the Italian film scene, earning several nominations and several awards in various events, not only Italian.
We contacted him to talk about his latest show “Love in the Time of Covid,” which he will hold at the Centro Arcobaleno in Fuorigrotta, in Naples, on March 31, and about his future projects.
Brando, how did your great passion for cinema come about?
“Good morning to you. It started from a very young age. One day I was watching ‘La banda degli onesti’ with Totò and Peppino De Filippo on television. I asked my mother why those people were doing the strange things I was seeing, and she told me that they were actors, that imitating other crafts was their job. So I thought it must be nice to do that job, as a kind of game.”
You have a degree in Communication Sciences, then in 2020 you got another degree in Cinema, Theater, Dance and Digital Arts from La Sapienza in Rome, and after that you got a diploma at the Naples film school in Filmmaking and Acting. How important have your studies been in your filmmaking?
“They have been very important. I’ve always been a curious person, I’ve always studied directing and screenwriting manuals, but the studies allowed me to approach the subject from a professional point of view and to compare myself with people who wanted to do the same job.”
You said you also acted with Carlo Verdone. What was that experience like?
“If someone had told me a few years ago that I would work several times in a row with Carlo Verdone, I would have called him crazy. With him we often improvised, and that was the best thing.”
On March 31 you will be at the Centro Arcobaleno in Fuorigrotta where you will stage your latest play “Love in the Time of Covid.” Would you like to tell us about it?
“It will be a fun and interesting journey where we will see what we would do if we could go back in time and change some things in our lives. Maybe I would throw myself less headlong into certain situations, but what I would never change is my determination to move forward and overcome every obstacle, especially those given by the imponderability of being human.”
To conclude, would you like to tell us something about your future plans?
“Yes, in July this summer the filming of the movie “Ed è su bito commedia”, which will be released on Chili in may. It was filmed in Crotone. It is an American-style Italian-style romantic comedy, directed by me and produced by the Volumineide Association. It is a funny and romantic story, but with hooks to current events and a hint of bitterness. The main characters in the story are Giada and Marco, who meet again after 20 years in Crotone, where she runs a bar and he is a luthier. As children they were close friends, then lost touch, and in finding each other as adults they will also face the problems that emerged in growing up.”
Alongside him is Veronica Maya as Fabiola, a florist with whom the protagonist confides daily. A small introduction to the story by screenwriter and director Enrico Vanzina: with this comedy he wants to create a story that can make people laugh but at the same time reflect. There are many references to current events, the two protagonists are linked to each other rushing into bizarre but also very human and realistic situations.
