L’indignazione è collettiva. La Venere degli stracci in fumo, all’alba di questa giornata, è un’immagine golosa per tutti media nazionali che hanno sempre puntato sull’aspetto oscuro della città. Ma lascia tanta amarezza nel cuore di chi la città la ama davvero, anche se non vi è nato.
Come in quello di Sylvain Bellenger, direttore del Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, che, a proposito di questo incendio, ricorda la frase di Heinrich Heine: «Là dove si bruciano i libri si finisce per bruciare anche gli uomini: L’incendio della Venere degli Stracci di Pistoletto è un brutto segnale, che segue il colpo di pistola nell’opera di Milot a piazza Mercato. Che tristezza!».
Inaugurata il 28 giugno con lo stesso autore, Michelangelo Pistoletto, si era emozionato nel presentare in Sala Giunta, a Palazzo San Giacomo, sede del comune, la sua opera, nata nel 1967, che era stata salutata da cittadinanza e turisti con curiosità e partecipazione. Tanto che c’è stato chi ha chiesto di poter portare anche i propri stracci per arricchire l’installazione, sintesi di miseria e bellezza, con sguardo all’armonia del futuro. E la Venere, in pochi giorni si era ben inserita nella passeggiata cittadina di Piazza Municipio, con gli occhi rivolti al mare.
Domate le fiamme del rogo dai vigili del fuoco, l’area è stata posta sotto sequestro: sono in corso indagini da parte della polizia per accertare l’ origine dolosa dell’incendio.
«C’è sgomento –commenta il sindaco Gaetano Manfredi– per un atto di grande violenza, che lascia interdetti: quando si attacca l’arte, si attacca l’uomo. Dopo lo sgomento c’è la risposta: rifaremo questa installazione perché è un simbolo di ripartenza che non può essere fermato dal vandalismo. Lanceremo una raccolta fondi per far in modo che questa ricostruzione avvenga anche con una partecipazione popolare.
Napoli è la bellezza, è la ripartenza, mentre questi atti di vandalismo sono espressione di una grandissima minoranza di persone. Ho sentito Michelangelo Pistoletto. Era amareggiato e ferito, ma ha detto che anche quest’atto così violento dev’essere interpretato da noi come momento di ripartenza».
