Settant’anni fa si alzava il sipario del San Ferdinando. Era il 22 gennaio del 1954 quando andò in scena La palummella zompa e vola di Antonio Petito, firmata da Eduardo De Filippo e da Vittorio Viviani. Riapriva, così, il teatro acquistato dal grande artista nel 1948 e ricostruito sulle macerie dei bombardamenti avvenuti nel 1943.
Quella riapertura sarà celebrata all’inizio della prossima settimana, lunedì 22 gennaio. La serata che darà il via, in questo inizio del 2024, ai festeggiamenti dell’importante anniversario della sala di Piazza Eduardo De Filippo 20, previsti dal progetto San Ferdinando 70: 1954 > 2024 | Teatro San Ferdinando gennaio > maggio 2024, a cura del Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale e della Fondazione Eduardo De Filippo.
Alle 20 sulla facciata del teatro le immagini di videomappin a cura di Alessandro Papa e Mariano Soria accoglieranno gli ospiti per la rappresentazione – a inviti – dello spettacolo prodotto da Elledieffe e Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale, Tavola tavola, chiodo, chiodo…progetto di Lino Musella e Tommaso De Filippo elaborato da appunti, articoli, corrispondenze e carteggi di Eduardo De Filippo di e con Lino Musella e le musiche dal vivo di Marco Vidino.
Mentre il foyer del teatro ospiterà, fino al 25 maggio 2024 la mostra promossa e organizzata dalla Fondazione Eduardo De Filippo e dal Teatro di Napoli – Teatro Nazionale: San Ferdinando 70. Teatro di Eduardo, teatro di tutti (1954-2024) a cura di Maria Procino con Serena Schioppa. Locandine, video, foto e altri documenti, che ripercorrono la storia del San Ferdinando e di Eduardo De Filippo, visitabile negli orari di spettacolo.
Da marzo a aprile il teatro accoglierà il progetto di Antonello Cossia, Performance itinerante per vivere e raccontare il Teatro San Ferdinando e il repertorio di Eduardo De Filippo: un inedito percorso lungo gli spazi della storica sala eduardiana alla scoperta del rapporto che lega il Teatro al suo fondatore e alla città, con la partecipazione dei giovani attori diplomati alla Scuola del Teatro Nazionale, fondata da Luca De Filippo.
«Il San Ferdinando è un luogo speciale – conclude Roberto Andò, direttore del Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale – perché pensato da un uomo di teatro consapevole dell’importanza di ritrovare una perfetta corrispondenza tra ciò che avviene sul palco e la platea, tra gli artisti e gli spettatori che vi si ritrovano avvinti in un solo respiro, in un solo battito di cuore. Il San Ferdinando sta a Eduardo come il Globe sta a Shakespeare. Un teatro che ha un carattere unico anche nell’essere contemporaneamente un condominio, con finestre di abitazioni private. Un luogo dove ancora oggi si mescolano le finzioni della vita e le verità del teatro. 70 anni sono un tempo relativamente lungo per misurare il senso di un teatro e la traccia che ha lasciato in una comunità. A noi, il dovere di continuare a tessere l’ordito di una trama sensibile e fragile e di onorare la memoria di chi ci ha creduto, Eduardo e Luca».

San Ferdinando/ Eduardo’s theater turns 70. Naples celebrates it with an exhibition
Seventy years ago the curtain went up at the San Ferdinando. It was January 22, 1954, when Antonio Petito’s La palummella zompa e vola, signed by Eduardo De Filippo and Vittorio Viviani, was performed. Thus the theater was reopened. It was bought by the great artist in 1948 and rebuilt on the ruins of the 1943 bombing.
This reopening will be celebrated at the beginning of next week, on Monday, January 22nd. The evening will inaugurate, in this beginning of 2024, the celebrations of the important anniversary of the Theater in Eduardo De Filippo Square 20, planned by the project San Ferdinando 70: 1954 > 2024 | Teatro San Ferdinando January > May 2024, curated by the Teatro Nazionale di Napoli and the Fondazione Eduardo De Filippo.
At 8 p.m., on the facade of the theater, video mapping images curated by Alessandro Papa and Mariano Soria will welcome guests for the invitation-only performance of the show produced by Elledieffe and Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale, Tavola tavola, chiodo, chiodo. …a project by Lino Musella and Tommaso De Filippo based on notes, articles, correspondence and letters by Eduardo De Filippo by and with Lino Musella and live music by Marco Vidino.
While the foyer of the theater will host, until May 25th, 2024, the exhibition promoted and organized by Fondazione Eduardo De Filippo and Teatro di Napoli – Teatro Nazionale: San Ferdinando 70. Eduardo’s theater, everyone’s theater (1954-2024), curated by Maria Procino with Serena Schioppa. Playbills, videos, photos and other documents tracing the history of San Ferdinando and of Eduardo De Filippo, to be seen during performances.
From March to April, the Teatro will host Antonello Cossia’s project, Itinerant Performance, to experience and tell the story of the Teatro San Ferdinando and Eduardo De Filippo’s repertoire: an original journey through the rooms of the historic Eduardian Hall to discover the relationship that binds the Teatro to its founder and to the city, with the participation of young actors who graduated from the National Theatre School founded by Luca De Filippo.
“The San Ferdinando is a special place,” concludes Roberto Andò, director of the Teatro Nazionale in Naples, “because it was conceived by a man of the theater who was aware of the importance of finding a perfect correspondence between what happens on the stage and the audience, between the artists and the spectators, who find themselves there in the same breath, in the same heartbeat. The San Ferdinando is to Eduardo what the Globe is to Shakespeare. A theater that also has the unique character of being an apartment building, with windows of private homes. A place where the fictions of life still mix with the truths of the theater. Seventy years is a relatively long time to measure the importance of a theater and the mark it has left on a community. We feel obliged to continue weaving a delicate and fragile plot and to honor the memory of those who believed in it, Eduardo and Luca”.
