E’ appena iniziata la rassegna dei “Venerdì di Ercolano” che come ogni estate, per tutto il mese di agosto, offre tour serali teatralizzati ogni venerdì sera a partire dalle 20 e fino alle 23, al costo di 9 euro.
Un piacevole diversivo per chi resta nella calura della città e vuole vedere il sito archeologico con uno sguardo originale. Le guide turistiche abilitate accompagneranno i gruppi di visitatori seguendo il racconto del mito di Ercole che è il tema di quest’anno, mentre la compagnia di Teatri 35 regalerà momenti attoriali tra le rovine e le luci soffuse, rievocando le gesta e la vita dell’eroe in un’atmosfera molto suggestiva.
Bellissima la sistemazione dell’antica spiaggia da poco completata, che restituisce al visitatore un colpo d’occhio su quanto fosse diretto l’affaccio sul mare (poi allontanato dall’eruzione del 79 d.c. di circa 500 metri) e che permette di guardare da vicino i fòrnici, cioè i depositi/rimesse per le barche dei pescatori con la ricostruzione degli scheletri lì ritrovati. L’unico sito archeologico che ha conservato integro il fronte mare.
Come per ogni edizione, il direttore Francesco Sirano ha dato inizio alla prima serata facendo strada agli ospiti della stampa e del quartiere della vicina via Mare, sottolineando l’importanza di coinvolgere sempre la cittadinanza nei progressi della sistemazione dello scavo e delle strade limitrofe. Altri cambiamenti sono previsti nel corso dei prossimi anni e prenderanno in considerazione la vicina Villa dei Papiri.

Herculaneum Fridays/Evenings among the excavations: guided tours to discover the myth
The “Herculaneum Fridays” event has just started, which, like every summer, offers theatrical guided tours every Friday evening during the month of August, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., at a cost of 9 euros.
A pleasant diversion for those who are stuck in the heat of the city and want to see the archaeological site in an original way. Licensed guides will lead groups of visitors through the story of the myth of Hercules, this year’s theme, while the company of Theaters 35 will offer theatrical moments among the ruins and dimmed lights, recounting the hero’s deeds and life in a very evocative atmosphere.
The recently completed restoration of the ancient beach is beautiful, giving the visitor a glimpse of how direct the seafront was (later removed by the 79 A.D.. eruption by about 500 meters) and allowing a close look at the fòrnici, i.e. the storage/retainers for fishermen’s boats, with reconstructed skeletons found there. It is the only archaeological site that has preserved the waterfront intact.
As with every edition, director Francesco Sirano opened the first evening by leading the way for guests from the press and the neighborhood on nearby Via Mare, stressing the importance of always involving the citizens in the progress of the excavation and neighboring streets. More changes are planned over the next few years and will consider the nearby Villa dei Papiri.
