Alessandro Poerio è un poeta dei nostri tempi, un napoletano che si sentiva già italiano con lo sguardo rivolto all’Europa: il libro “Alessandro Poerio. Vita e opere. Con l’aggiunta di lettere inedite di Ottilie von Goehe” ( Rubbettino, 2022) a cura di Anna Poerio si presenta martedì 9 maggio, alle 16:30 alla Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli.
Interverranno: Maria Iannotti, Mariolina Rascaglia, Vittoria Fiorelli, Maria Carmen Morese, Stefanie Sonnentag, Lydia Tarsitano. Letture a cura di Maurizio Merolla. Sarà presente l’autrice.
L’autrice Anna Poerio Riverso, presidente dell’Associazione Culturale Alessandro Poerio e direttore del Comitato di Caserta dell’Istituto per la Storia del Risorgimento Italiano, nel 2022, 220° Anniversario della nascita di Alessandro Poerio, ha curato una nuova edizione del saggio, Alessandro Poerio. Vita e opere, rivisitata ed integrata contiene le lettere inedite inviate da Ottilie von Goethe ad Alessandro Poerio, trascritte e tradotte dalla giornalista e storica dell’arte Stefanie Sonnentag.
Alessandro(Napoli 1802-Venezia 1848), fratello di Carlo Poerio, è considerato una delle figure più rappresentative della spiritualità romantica e risorgimentale. Tommaseo lo definì il più forte poeta lirico dopo Manzoni”; Benedetto Croce gli riservò un posto di riguardo tra i più autorevoli poeti della prima metà dell’Ottocento: “… dopo il Manzoni e il Leopardi, nel periodo che va dal 1830 al ’48, l’opera di Alessandro Poerio, è accanto a quelle del Tommaseo e del Giusti, la sola che meriti di suscitare ancora l’interessamento dell’amatore di poesia.
Alessandro Poerio rappresenta l’intellettuale militante, che con i suoi versi cerca di suscitare l’orgoglio negli italiani invitandoli a prendere esempio dai grandi del passato. La cultura e la scrittura erano per lui le armi più efficaci per liberare gli uomini dalla schiavitù e dall’oppressione.

Alessandro Poerio is a poet of our times, a Neapolitan who already felt he was Italian with an eye on Europe: the book “Alessandro Poerio. Life and works. With the addition of unpublished letters of Ottilie von Goehe” ( Rubbettino, 2022) edited by Anna Poerio will be presented on Tuesday, May 9, at 4:30 p.m. at the National Library of Naples.

Author Anna Poerio Riverso, president of the Alessandro Poerio Cultural Association and director of the Caserta Committee of the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento, in 2022, the 220th Anniversary of Alessandro Poerio’s birth, has edited a new edition of the essay, Alessandro Poerio. Life and Works, revised and supplemented contains the unpublished letters sent by Ottilie von Goethe to Alessandro Poerio, transcribed and translated by journalist and art historian Stefanie Sonnentag.
Alessandro (Naples 1802-Venice 1848), brother of Carlo Poerio, is considered one of the most representative figures of Romantic and Risorgimento spirituality. Tommaseo called him the strongest lyric poet after Manzoni”; Benedetto Croce reserved for him a prominent place among the most influential poets of the first half of the nineteenth century: “… after Manzoni and Leopardi, in the period from 1830 to ’48, the work of Alessandro Poerio, is next to those of Tommaseo and Giusti, the only one that still deserves to arouse the interest of the poetry lover.
Alessandro Poerio represents the militant intellectual, who through his verses seeks to arouse pride in Italians by inviting them to take example from the greats of the past. Culture and writing were for him the most effective weapons to free humans from slavery and oppression.
