Silence is a gift. Questo il titolo del primo libro del fotografo Ciro Battiloro ( di Torre del Greco, classe 1984) edito da Chose Commune (casa editrice indipendente di Marsiglia) con testi di Erri De Luca. L’autore sceglie di presentarlo domani, venerdì 29 marzo alle 19, a Casa Sanità per rendere omaggio al quartiere grazie al quale ha formato la sua ricerca fotografica antropologica, vivendo a stretto contatto l’intimità dei legami, la forza esistenziale, un racconto di vite (foto) che abitano luoghi e che si fanno parola attraverso il suo obiettivo.
Rione Sanità (Napoli), Santa Lucia (Cosenza), Torre del Greco. Ci sono luoghi del Sud Italia che portano sui muri e sulla carne dei loro abitanti cicatrici di ferite insanabili. In quelle ferite risiede la memoria storica e il volto reale delle persone.
I loro nomi sono Alfonso, Elena, Marco, Stefania, solo per citarne alcuni. Alcuni provengono dagli stessi quartieri e si conoscono, altri no. Ma hanno tutti una cosa in comune: hanno incontrato Ciro Battiloro, che li ha seguiti nell’intimità della loro casa, con la sua macchina fotografica e con il suo cuore. Ha ritratto la loro vita quotidiana prendendone parte.
Ciro Battiloro è un amico, un fratello e un confidente. Non si concentra sulla marginalità, quanto piuttosto sulla straordinaria vitalità. Ha visto nascere nuove vite, bambini diventare adolescenti e poi genitori a loro volta. Ha anche dovuto dire addio. Silence is a Gift parla di amore e solitudine, vita e morte, dolore e gioia, ma soprattutto di intimità e resistenza.

Silence is a gift. This is the title of the first book by photographer Ciro Battiloro ( born in Torre del Greco in 1984) published by Chose Commune (an independent publishing house in Marseille) with texts by Erri De Luca. The author chooses to present it tomorrow, Friday, March 29th, at 7 p.m., at Casa Sanità to pay homage to the neighborhood through which he formed his anthropological photographic research, living closely with the intimacy of ties, the existential force, a tale of lives (photo) that inhabit places and become words through his lens.
Rione Sanità (Naples), Santa Lucia (Cosenza), Torre del Greco. There are places in Southern Italy that bear on their walls and on the flesh of their inhabitants scars of irremediable wounds. In those wounds resides the historical memory and the real face of the people.
Their names are Alfonso, Elena, Marco, Stefania, just to name a few. Some come from the same neighborhoods and know each other, others do not. But they all have one thing in common: they met Ciro Battiloro, who followed them into the intimacy of their homes, with his camera and his heart. He portrayed their daily life by taking part in it.
Ciro Battiloro is a friend, a brother and a confidant. He does not focus on marginalization, but on extraordinary vitality. He has seen new lives born, children become teenagers and then parents. He has also had to say goodbye. Silence is a Gift is about love and loneliness, life and death, pain and joy, but most of all it is about intimacy and resilience.
