Fare l’Italia: fotografia e identità italiana. Sabato 22 febbraio, nuovo appuntamento alle ore 11.30, in Sala Assoli-Moscato (Vico Lungo Teatro Nuovo, 110) con la rassegna Il sabato della fotografia, ciclo di mostre, incontri e workshop sul linguaggio fotografico curato da Pino Miraglia.
Ingresso libero fino a esaurimento posti: protagonista sarà Fausto Giaccone, uno dei grandi nomi del fotogiornalismo italiano, all’interno della sezione Storie d’Italia, a cura di Manuela Fugenzi. Dopo l’incontro con Uliano Lucas, prosegue così il viaggio nella memoria storica italiana attraverso la fotografia.
Dopodomani si esplorerà il ruolo della fotografia nella costruzione dell’identità del Paese, dal Risorgimento fino ai giorni nostri. Attraverso gli scatti dei primi atelier fotografici, le immagini di propaganda del regime, le fotografie dei rotocalchi durante il boom economico e i lavori dei grandi maestri del secondo Novecento, la fotografia ha documentato e, al tempo stesso, contribuito a definire la percezione collettiva della nazione.
Fausto Giaccone racconterà la sua esperienza nel mondo dell’editoria, dagli esordi nelle riviste indipendenti romane degli anni sessanta fino alle collaborazioni con i grandi gruppi editoriali milanesi.
Nato a San Vincenzo nel 1943 e cresciuto a Palermo, Giaccone si trasferisce a Roma nel 1965, dove si laurea in architettura prima di dedicarsi interamente alla fotografia. Negli anni ’80 si stabilisce a Milano, avviando una lunga carriera per riviste geografiche internazionali. Dal 1995 è rappresentato dall’agenzia Anzenberger di Vienna.
Il ciclo di incontri proseguirà con gli appuntamenti dedicati a Olivo Barbieri e Paola Agosti. Inoltre, nello spazio espositivo di Sala Assoli-Moscato è possibile visitare la mostra Berlino 1989 – Sopra e sotto il muro di Luciano Ferrara, in esposizione fino al 16 marzo.

Making Italy: photography and the Italian identity. Saturday the 22nd, a new appointment at 11.30 a.m. in the Sala Assoli-Moscato (Vico Lungo Teatro Nuovo, 110) with the review Il sabato della fotografia, a cycle of exhibitions, meetings and workshops on the language of photography curated by Pino Miraglia.
Entrance is free while seats are still available: the protagonist will be Fausto Giaccone, one of the great names in Italian photojournalism, as part of the Storie d’Italia section curated by Manuela Fugenzi. After the meeting with Uliano Lucas, the journey into Italian historical memory through photography continues.
The day after tomorrow, the role of photography in the construction of the country’s identity, from the Risorgimento to the present day, will be explored. From the pictures taken in the first photo studios, to the propaganda images of the regime, to the photographs published in magazines during the economic boom, to the works of the great masters of the second half of the twentieth century, photography has documented and at the same time contributed to defining the collective perception of the nation.
Fausto Giaccone will share his experiences in the world of publishing, from his beginnings in the independent magazines of Rome in the 1960s to his collaboration with major publishing groups in Milan.
Born in San Vincenzo in 1943 and brought up in Palermo, Giaccone moved to Rome in 1965, where he studied architecture before devoting himself entirely to photography. In the eighties he settled in Milan, where he began a long career working for international geographic magazines. He has been represented by the Anzenberger agency in Vienna since 1995.
The series of meetings continues with sessions dedicated to Olivo Barbieri and Paola Agosti. In addition, the exhibition Berlin 1989 – Above and Below the Wall by Luciano Ferrara will be on show in the Sala Assoli-Moscato until 16 March.
