Sabba, all’anagrafe Salvatore Lampitelli, classe 1986, di professione musicista, viene da Frattaminore, in provincia di Napoli (foto). Lavora da sempre nel mondo della musica e ha iniziato a esibirsi già all’età di 18 anni con un gruppo blues. Successivamente entra a far parte del Sud Express, messi in piedi dal famoso batterista Franco del Prete. Ha inoltre fatto parte della band dell’Anema e Core, celebre locale di Capri.
È vincitore nel 2017 del talent show “The winner is”, condotto su Canale 5 da Gerry Scotti, che dopo averlo sentito duettare con Fausto Leali disse: «Sei uno dei cantanti che mi ha impressionato di più, la tua vocalità mi ricorda Demetrio Stratos».
Dotato di potenza vocale formidabile e timbrica molto bella, Sabba ritorna in TV nel talent show “All together now”, condotto da Michelle Hunziker, in onda su Canale 5 in qualità di giudice nei 100 del muro degli esperti, dopo aver partecipato nel 2020 con TheSuper4 all’edizione di X-Factor Romania arrivando in finale ed ottenendo un successo di pubblico straordinario.
Sabba è tra i 10 finalisti di NYCanta (New York Canta) con la sua “Comete”, grazie alla quale si esibisce al Blue Note di Milano. Tra le altre esperienze nella sua carriera discografica, “L’ultimo Apache” (Suonidelsud/RaiTrade) con Franco del Prete pioniere del Neapolitan Power (The Showmen, Napoli Centrale) in qualità di cantante solista, di co-compositore e di chitarrista ritmico.
Due tour con oltre 350 date in tutta Italia e due dischi incisi con la band Sabba e Gli incensurabili, “Nessuno si senta offeso” (BulbArt) e “Sogno e Son Fesso” (Full Heads). Con “Chiamatemi Nerone”, contenuta in questo secondo disco, sono finalisti al premio De André.
Negli ultimi anni entra anche nel progetto del sassofonista Daniele Sepe “Capitan Capitone” in qualità di cantante sia in studio che live.
Sul finire del 2022 esce il singolo “Carnera”, e a marzo 2023, il rocker napoletano Sabba pubblica il singolo “Call me”. Con questo nuovo singolo Sabba dimostra di avere una grande sensibilità musicale e una voce che riesce a trasmettere emozioni forti e coinvolgenti. Ne parliamo con lui.
Salvatore, come mai ti fai chiamare Sabba?
«Sabba nasce da un aneddoto simpatico dei miei inizi con Franco Del Prete, pioniere del Neapolitan power. Facevo il ballerino prima di iniziare a cantare da professionista; perciò, alle prime registrazioni in studio con lui e la sua band, mi disse che avevo bisogno di un nome d’arte. Gli risposi che gli amici mi chiamavano Sabba, ma per loro era uno sfottò, eppure a lui suonava davvero bene. Così decidemmo che quello che prima era un nomignolo di derisione, sarebbe diventato il mio nome d’arte, la mia rivincita con la musica»
Nel 2017 hai partecipato a “The winner is”, il talent condotto da Gerry Scotti ed è stato uno dei tuoi traguardi più importanti. Come ci sei arrivato?
«Dopo due dischi e due relativi tour nazionali con Sabba e Gli incensurabili. Avevamo subito un furto nel nostro studio, messo su con i risparmi dei concerti. Da quel momento ci fu una crisi interna alla band. Andai avanti da solista per un po’ scegliendo di aprirmi ad esperienze diverse da quelle che fino ad allora rispecchiavano la mia comfort zone. Ricevetti questa telefonata e decisi di mettermi in gioco. Aver vinto e aver avuto l’occasione di duettare con Fausto Leali credo siano stati episodi chiave per dimostrare che avevo ragione».
Da lì alla realizzazione del tuo sogno come solista e cantautore.
«Ero già cantautore, non credo sia cambiato nulla da allora, ho solo continuato a scrivere, produrre, comporre, arrangiare canzoni e al contempo a suonare in giro nei club, intanto che il mondo della musica cambiava. Prima facevo i dischi, ora faccio singoli che non hanno una forma fisica, ma finiscono solo nelle playlist Spotify, se gira bene. Si capisce che sono un nostalgico?»
E il tuo ultimo singolo, Call me?
«Nasce per raccontare dell’importanza di avere qualcuno, a prescindere dal tipo di relazione, che ci sia per noi quando ci sentiamo persi e viceversa. Avevo sul cellulare queste note scritte in una notte insonne in cui parlavo a me stesso, come per Loop e Borderline, miei singoli precedenti. Insieme a Joe Romano, cantautore, venne fuori l’idea di questo ritornello in inglese che suonasse come un appiglio nei momenti di difficoltà»
A proposito d’amore, qual è la tua concezione dell’amore?
«Comprensione e condivisione, senza troppi sforzi. Provo amore per tante persone, in maniera diversa. Tutte quelle persone, non le giudico, le comprendo e ci condivido attimi, momenti, gioie, dolori. Il tutto senza catene, senza stress, senza impegno, come ci viene naturale. Perché se non viene naturale, non è amore»
Per concludere, vogliamo dire ai tuoi fan se ci sarà un concerto prossimamente? O non vuoi svelarci nulla al momento?
«Continuerò la mia attività live sia da solista, con i miei progetti in cui sono coinvolti gli Incensurabili, sia con Sonia Mosca, sia con TheSuper4 che con Irene Ferrara. Per ora preferisco non spoilerare troppo»

Interview/ Neapolitan singer-songwriter Sabba: «New single ‘Call me’ tells of the importance of having someone to be there for us: it was born out of a sleepless night when I was talking to myself»
Sabba – Salvatore Lampitelli – class of 1986, a musician by profession, is from Frattaminore, in the province of Naples (photo). He has always worked in the music business and began performing as early as age 18 with a blues group. He later joined Sud Express, put together by famous drummer Franco del Prete. He was also part of the band at Anema e Core, a famous club in Capri.
He is the 2017 winner of the talent show “The winner is,” hosted on Channel 5 by Gerry Scotti, who after hearing him duet with Fausto Leali said, “You are one of the singers who impressed me the most, your vocality reminds me of Demetrio Stratos.”
Gifted with formidable vocal power and very beautiful timbre, Sabba returns to TV in the talent show “All together now,” hosted by Michelle Hunziker, airing on Channel 5 as a judge in the 100 of the wall of experts, after participating in 2020 with TheSuper4 in the X-Factor Romania edition reaching the finals and gaining an extraordinary success with the public.
Sabba is among the 10 finalists of NYCanta (New York Canta) with his “Comets,” thanks to which he performs at the Blue Note in Milan. Other experiences in his recording career include “The Last Apache” (Suonidelsud/RaiTrade) with Franco del Prete pioneer of Neapolitan Power (The Showmen, Napoli Centrale) as lead singer, co-composer and rhythm guitarist.
Two tours with over 350 dates throughout Italy and two records recorded with the band Sabba and Gli incensurabili, “Nessuno si senta offeso” (BulbArt) and “Sogno e Son Fesso” (Full Heads). With “Call Me Nero,” contained in this second record, they are finalists in the De André Award.
In recent years he also joins saxophonist Daniele Sepe’s project “Capitan Capitone” as a singer both in the studio and live.
In late 2022, the single “Carnera” was released, and in March 2023, Neapolitan rocker Sabba released the single “Call me.” With this new single Sabba proves that he has a great musical sensibility and a voice that can convey strong and engaging emotions. We talk with him about it.
Salvatore, why do you call yourself Sabba?
“Sabba comes from a funny anecdote from my beginnings with Franco Del Prete, a pioneer of Neapolitan power. I was a dancer before I started singing professionally; therefore, at my first studio recordings with him and his band, he told me that I needed a stage name. I replied that my friends called me Sabba, but to them it was a mockery, yet it sounded really good to him. So we decided that what used to be a nickname of mockery would become my stage name, my revenge with music.”
In 2017 you participated in “The winner is,” the talent show hosted by Gerry Scotti, and it was one of your most important achievements. How did you get there?
“After two records and two related national tours with Sabba and The Incensurables. We had suffered a theft in our studio, set up with savings from concerts. From that moment there was an internal crisis in the band. I went on as a solo artist for a while, choosing to open myself up to experiences other than those that until then reflected my comfort zone. I received this call and decided to put myself out there. Winning and having the opportunity to duet with Fausto Leali I think were key episodes in proving that I was right.”
From there to the realization of your dream as a solo artist and songwriter.
“I was already a singer-songwriter, I don’t think anything has changed since then, I just kept writing, producing, composing, arranging songs and at the same time playing around in clubs while the music world was changing. I used to make records, now I make singles that don’t have a physical form, they just end up on Spotify playlists, if it goes well. Can you tell I’m nostalgic?”
What about your latest song, Call Me?
“It was born to tell about the importance of having someone, regardless of the type of relationship, be there for us when we feel lost and vice versa. I had these notes on my phone written on a sleepless night talking to myself, as with Loop and Borderline, my previous singles. Together with Joe Romano, a songwriter, came up with the idea of this refrain in English that would sound like a handhold in times of trouble.”
Speaking of love, what is your conception of love?
“Understanding and sharing, without too much effort. I feel love for many people, in different ways. All those people, I do not judge them, I understand them and share moments, moments, joys, sorrows with them. All without chains, without stress, without commitment, as it comes naturally to us. Because if it does not come naturally, it is not love.”
In conclusion, shall we tell your fans if there will be a concert soon? Or don’t you want to reveal anything at the moment?
“I will continue my live activity both solo, with my projects in which the Incensurables are involved, with Sonia Mosca, with TheSuper4 and with Irene Ferrara. For now I prefer not to spoil too much.”
