Dopo il grande successo sui palchi di Milano, dopo l’energia esplosiva di Torino e Bologna, fino al sold out di Roma e Pisa, e dopo aver concluso il tour estivo in Campania con numerosi sold out, compreso l’incredibile concerto di agosto a Napoli in Piazza del Plebiscito, si conclude il tour invernale con un’unica data in Campania: appuntamento il 21 dicembre a Napoli al Teatro Palapartenope (alle 21.30) per la chiusura del tour nazionale di presentazione di Sotto chi tene core, il nuovo album di inediti della band La Maschera, uscito il 13 maggio 2022.
‘Sotto chi tene core’ è un concept album di 9 canzoni che parlano di riscatto sociale e sentimentale, un invito ad alzare lo sguardo e farsi avanti. Storie vere, dove l’urlo di chi non ha voce diventa grido di battaglia.
«Storie di resistenza, di sentimenti profondi, di gente normale e della loro poesia – racconta Roberto Colella, frontman della band. Penso all’amore tra Mirella e Felice Pignataro, da cui nascono il GRIDAS, il carnevale di Scampia, la controscuola. Penso alla vita straordinaria di Thomas Sankara, mai abbastanza ricordato. A grandi amori e grandi ripensamenti. A gesti eroici di uomini semplici. Agli invisibili di tutto il mondo. Penso a loro, al loro grido di battaglia: quattro parole simboliche, un invito a farsi avanti: SOTTO CHI TENE CORE».
E conclude: «Inutile dire quanto sia emozionante l’idea di suonare in uno dei luoghi simbolo dei grandi eventi in città: il Teatro Palapartenope. Sarà una festa speciale con un po’ di sorprese. Vi aspettiamo in tantissimi in questa che sarà l’unica data invernale nella nostra città».

CHI SONO

Sin dall’uscita del loro primo album ‘O vicolo ‘e l’allerìa nel novembre 2014, La Maschera ha preso il suo posto nella scena musicale napoletana come una delle band indipendenti più interessanti.
Subito il progetto si fa notare per il suo notevole tasso di sperimentazione, tanto da collocarsi, a pieno titolo, in un solco dal sound marcatamente “World”. A conferma dell’attitudine alla contaminazione stilistica, nell’estate del 2015 arriva l’incontro con Laye Ba, musicista senegalese: occasione di reciproco arricchimento umano ed artistico, da cui sono nati due brani composti ed eseguiti insieme.
Dopo il tour senegalese, nel novembre 2017, è stato pubblicato il loro secondo album, intitolato ParcoSofia. Nell’autunno 2018 La Maschera ha portato la sua musica all’estero: dal 12 al 19 ottobre sono stati in tour in Portogallo, dal 25 al 29 ottobre erano presenti al Womex a Gran Canaria (Spagna), e dal 20 al 30 novembre sono stati in Canada per un mini-tour, ospiti dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Montreal.
Nel novembre 2018 si sono aggiudicati il Premio Andrea Parodi, il più prestigioso riconoscimento italiano per la World Music. Nel 2019 dopo il loro nuovo tour nazionale, che li porta ad esibirsi in dodici delle maggiori città italiane, partono per la Corea del Sud dove incontrano il favore di addetti ai lavori e pubblico nei festival Seoul Music Week, e Suseong World Music Festival.
Di ritorno dalla Corea, tra le altre date del loro tour, calcano i palchi di importanti festival nazionali e internazionali quali lo Szieget, l’Home Festival, il Folkest e il Giffoni Music Concept. Prosegue anche la loro attività in studio che li vede pubblicare, a cavallo tra il 2019 e il 2020 due nuovi singoli: ‘A cosa justa, struggente ballata su un amore perduto, e Se mai fossi, cover del brano Se tu és o meu amor di Vitorino, leggenda della canzone popolare portoghese che ha voluto partecipare con La Maschera sia alla registrazione del brano sia alla data napoletana del tour.

After the great success on the stages of Milan, after the explosive energy of Turin and Bologna, up to the sold out performances in Rome and Pisa, and after concluding the summer tour in Campania with numerous sold out concerts, including the incredible August concert in Naples in Piazza del Plebiscito, the winter tour concludes with a single date in Campania: 21 December in Naples at the Teatro Palapartenope (at 9.30 p.m.) for the closing of the national tour presenting Sotto chi tene core, the new album of unreleased songs by the band La Maschera, released on 13 May 2022.
Sotto chi tene core’ is a nine-song concept album about social and sentimental redemption, an invitation to look up and come forward. True stories, where the scream of the voiceless becomes a battle cry.
‘Stories of resistance, of deep feelings, of ordinary people and their poetry,’ says Roberto Colella, frontman of the band. I think of the love between Mirella and Felice Pignataro, from which GRIDAS, the Scampia carnival, the counter-school were born. I think of the extraordinary life of Thomas Sankara, never remembered enough. To great loves and great afterthoughts. To heroic gestures of simple men. To the invisibles of the world. I think of them, of their battle cry: four symbolic words, an invitation to come forward: UNDER THE HEAD”.
And he concludes: «Needless to say, how exciting is the idea of playing in one of the symbolic venues for big events in the city: the Palapartenope Theatre. It will be a special party with a few surprises. We look forward to seeing you in great numbers at this, the only winter date in our city’».

WHO ARE THEY?
La Maschera (pictured: frontman Roberto Colella, vocals/keyboard/guitar), Vincenzo Capasso (trumpet), Alessandro Morlando (electric guitar), Antonio ‘Gomez’ Caddeo (bass and double bass), Marco Salvatore (drums) and Michele Maione (percussion).
Since the release of their first album ‘O vicolo ‘e l’allerìa in November 2014, La Maschera has taken its place in the Neapolitan music scene as one of the most interesting independent bands.
Immediately, the project stands out for its remarkable rate of experimentation, so much so as to place itself, in its own right, in a groove with a distinctly ‘World’ sound. Confirming the aptitude for stylistic contamination, in the summer of 2015 came the meeting with Laye Ba, a Senegalese musician: an opportunity for mutual human and artistic enrichment, from which two songs composed and performed together were born.
After the Senegalese tour, their second album, entitled ParcoSofia, was released in November 2017. In autumn 2018, La Maschera took their music abroad: from 12 to 19 October they toured Portugal, from 25 to 29 October they were present at Womex in Gran Canaria (Spain), and from 20 to 30 November they were in Canada for a mini-tour, guests of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal.
In November 2018, they won the Andrea Parodi Prize, the most prestigious Italian award for World Music. In 2019, after their new national tour, which takes them to perform in twelve of Italy’s major cities, they leave for South Korea where they meet with the favour of insiders and audiences at the Seoul Music Week, and Suseong World Music Festival festivals.
On their return from Korea, among other tour dates, they tread the boards of important national and international festivals such as Szieget, Home Festival, Folkest and Giffoni Music Concept. Their studio activity also continues, which sees them release two new singles between 2019 and 2020: ‘A cosa justa, a poignant ballad about a lost love, and Se mai fossi, a cover of the song Se tu és o meu amor by Vitorino, a legend of Portuguese folk song, who wanted to participate with La Maschera in both the recording of the song and the Neapolitan date of the tour.
