Quello che non vuoi dimenticare. E’ il titolo dell’installazione che Cristina Cusani (foto, classe 1984, artista visiva che utilizza principalmente la fotografia) presenta dal 26 maggio (inaugurazione ore 18), specificatamente creata per la sala circolare di Palazzo Fondi (via Medina 24).
Un’iniziativa de L’Arsenale di Napoli – startup culturale vincitrice del programma iQ – i Quartieri dell’Innovazione promosso dall’Assessorato alle Politiche Giovanili e al Lavoro del Comune di Napoli – che punta al concetto di territorio come unico museo.
Cusani si mette in gioco nella creazione di un’opera che parte dalla fotografia ma va oltre l’immagine, dove protagonista sarà il suono (foto). Come in una camera oscura, dove le immagini latenti diventano reali, piccole scintille sonore risveglieranno nella testa del pubblico una serie di immagini che sono sopite nella memoria.
L’artista ha chiesto alle persone coinvolte di dare voce al ricordo di qualcosa che non volessero dimenticare, cercando le parole, il tono e la costruzione della frase giusti da pronunciare e registrare. Ne è nata una collezione di ricordi, alcuni dell’infanzia, altri dell’età adulta , che sollecitano sentimenti e emozioni.
La sala, un ex mausoleo ai caduti del primo conflitto mondiale, nella sua attuale condizione, che la vede privata dei nomi dei caduti presenti un tempo alle pareti, appare di fatto come un luogo in cui l’oggetto della memoria è in realtà assente.
L’artista ha scelto di partire da questa mancanza per provare a trasformare l’intero ambiente in un luogo non “della” ma “per la” memoria: uno spazio in grado di amplificare l’immaginazione degli avventori richiamando alla loro mente l’immagine e le emozioni suscitate dal ricordo.
La sua opera è un dispositivo d’immaginazione, all’interno del quale le immagini prendono attraverso un processo narrativo. Ciò che vi appare è frutto dei ricordi delle tante persone cui l’artista si è rivolta: si tratta di amici, parenti e conoscenti di Napoli, legati in qualche modo a lei e alla città; alcuni ancora ci vivono, per altri, che l’hanno lasciata, questo territorio è solo il luogo del passato e della memoria.

What you don’t want to forget: an installation by Cristina Cusani that creates a place for memory
What you don’t want to forget. This is the title of the installation that Cristina Cusani (born in 1984, a visual artist who mainly uses photography) is presenting from May 26 (opening at 6 p.m.), specifically created for the circular room of Palazzo Fondi (Via Medina 24, Naples).
An initiative of L’Arsenale di Napoli – a cultural startup winner of the iQ program – the Neighborhoods of Innovation promoted by the Department of Youth Policies and Labor of the City of Naples – that focuses on the concept of territory as a single museum.
Cusani sets out to create a work that starts with photography but goes beyond the image, where the protagonist will be sound. As in a darkroom, where latent images become real, small sparks of sound will awaken in the audience’s head a series of images that are dormant in memory.
The artist asked the people involved to voice the memory of something they did not want to forget, searching for the right words, tone and sentence construction to say and record. The result was a collection of memories, some from childhood, others from adulthood , that solicit feelings and emotions.
The room, a former mausoleum to the fallen of World War I, in its current condition, which sees it deprived of the names of the fallen once present on the walls, appears in fact as a place where the object of memory is actually absent.
The artist has chosen to start from this absence to try to transform the entire environment into a place not “of” but “for” memory: a space capable of amplifying the imagination of visitors by recalling to their minds the image and emotions aroused by memory.
His work is a device of imagination, within which images take through a narrative process. What appears there is the result of the memories of the many people to whom the artist has turned: these are friends, relatives and acquaintances of Naples, linked in some way to her and to the city; some still live there, for others, who have left it, this territory is only the place of the past and of memory.
