Jazz a Ravello Festival. Dal 21 al 25 luglio con importanti interpreti internazionali. Nella cornice di Villa Rufolo, sul palco proteso sull’infinito, la 71esima edizione del festival ospiterà Brad Mehldau e il suo trio storico (venerdì 21 luglio, ore 21.30), il duo Stefano Bollani – Gonzalo Rubalcaba (sabato 22 luglio, ore 21.30), i New York Voices in un’inedita formazione con la Salerno Jazz Orchestra (domenica 23 luglio, ore 21.30) e, infine, il connubio tra Kurt Elling, uno dei più eminenti cantanti jazz del panorama musicale internazionale, e il chitarrista Charlie Hunter (martedì 25 luglio, ore 21.30).
Una delle voci più liriche e intime del pianoforte jazz contemporaneo, Brad Mehldau ha concepito un percorso unico, che incarna l’essenza dell’esplorazione jazz, del romanticismo classico e del vitalismo del pop. Mehldau ritorna a Ravello (21 luglio) con il suo trio storico, Larry Grenadier al basso e Jeff Ballard alla batteria.
Molto atteso il ritorno di Stefano Bollani (concerto sold out da tempo) che quest’anno salirà sul Belvedere di Villa Rufolo assieme a Gonzalo Rubalcaba (22 luglio), altro grande virtuoso nel pieno della maturità artistica. Il concerto sarà un dialogo a due in cui le possibilità diverse ed infinite di un incontro saranno protagoniste.
E ancora la Salerno Jazz Orchestra diretta da Gianni Pepe incontra l’ensemble vocale New York Voices (23 luglio) gruppo che ha esordito alla fine degli anni ’80 con la Grp, l’etichetta messa in piedi da Dave Grusin e Larry Rosen. Il loro allora era un quintetto, con Peter Eldridge, Caprice Fox, Sara Krieger, Darmon Meader e Kim Nazarian.
Pochi i cambiamenti nell’arco di trent’anni di attività: la sostituzione della Krieger con Lauren Kinhan nel 1992 e l’abbandono di Fox, che nel 1994 ha trasformato il gruppo in un quartetto che riesce a spaziare da Duke Ellington e Chick Corea ai Beatles e Cole Porter. Il concerto è una produzione esclusiva per il Ravello Festival.
Infine (25 luglio) Kurt Elling porta a Ravello il suo innovativo progetto SuperBlue: un sorprendente mix di funk, jazz, beats indelebili e testi memorabili in coppia con il produttore e chitarrista Charlie Hunter.
Kurt Elling, famoso in tutto il mondo per il suo ineguagliabile virtuosismo e talento continua nella sua personale esplorazione artistica. Frutto di questa inesauribile ricerca musicale è appunto l’ultimo LP Superblue: The Iridescent Spree. Nuovo capitolo del notevole Superblue del 2021. L’album vede ancora una volta Elling unire le forze oltre che con il produttore/chitarrista Charlie Hunter con il duo polistrumentista Corey Fonville e il bassista-tastierista DJ Harrison. Il concerto è un’esclusiva per l’Italia.

Jazz at Ravello Festival. July 21-25 with leading international performers. In the setting of Villa Rufolo, on the stage stretching out into infinity, the 71st edition of the festival will host Brad Mehldau and his historic trio (Friday, July 21, 9:30 p.m.), the duo Stefano Bollani – Gonzalo Rubalcaba (Saturday, July 22, 9. 30), the New York Voices in an unprecedented lineup with the Salerno Jazz Orchestra (Sunday, July 23, 9:30 p.m.) and the union of Kurt Elling, one of the most eminent jazz singers on the international music scene, and guitarist Charlie Hunter (Tuesday, July 25, 9:30 p.m.).
One of the most lyrical and intimate voices in contemporary jazz piano, Brad Mehldau has conceived a unique journey that embodies the essence of jazz exploration, classical romanticism and pop vitalism. Mehldau returns to Ravello (July 21) with his historic trio: Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums.
Highly anticipated is the return of Stefano Bollani (concert sold out a long time ago) who this year will step onto the Belvedere of Villa Rufolo together with Gonzalo Rubalcaba (July 22), another great virtuoso in the midst of his artistic maturity. The concert will be a dialogue between the two in which the diverse and infinite possibilities of an encounter will take center stage.
And again the Salerno Jazz Orchestra conducted by Gianni Pepe meets the vocal ensemble New York Voices (July 23) a group that made its debut in the late 1980s with Grp, the label set up by Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen. Theirs then was a quintet, featuring Peter Eldridge, Caprice Fox, Sara Krieger, Darmon Meader and Kim Nazarian.
There have been few changes in the 30-year span: the replacement of Krieger by Lauren Kinhan in 1992 and Fox’s departure, which transformed the group in 1994 into a quartet that manages to space from Duke Ellington and Chick Corea to the Beatles and Cole Porter. The concert is an exclusive production for the Ravello Festival.
Finally (July 25) Kurt Elling brings his groundbreaking project SuperBlue to Ravello: a surprising mix of funk, jazz, indelible beats and memorable lyrics paired with producer and guitarist Charlie Hunter.
Kurt Elling, world-renowned for his unparalleled virtuosity and talent, is continuing in his personal artistic exploration. The fruit of this inexhaustible musical quest is precisely the latest LP Superblue: The Iridescent Spree. A new chapter in the remarkable Superblue of 2021.
The album once again sees Elling join forces in addition to producer/guitarist Charlie Hunter with multi-instrumentalist duo Corey Fonville and bassist-keyboardist DJ Harrison. The concert is exclusive for Italy.
