Al Ravello Festival, L’oro del Reno, sotto forma di concerto. Domenica 20 agosto (alle 20) il Belvedere di Villa Rufolo accoglie la Dresdner Festspielorchester unita al Concerto Köln con Kent Nagano, direttore per il concerto clou della manifestazione.
Una inedita versione filologica: subito dopo l’appuntamento in costiera amalfitana, sarà ospitato dal Festival di Lucerna – realizzato in collaborazione con il Dresdner Musikfestspiele.
Lo spettacolo sarà preceduto da un incontro aperto al pubblico in programma alla vigilia (sabato 19 agosto, ore 19) nella Sala dei Cavalieri di Villa Rufolo con Kent Nagano che illustrerà, in una conversazione con il direttore artistico del Festival Alessio Vlad, il progetto complessivo di rilettura del “Ring”.
L’esecuzione del “Ring” (Der Ring des Nibelungen noto anche come Tetralogia, è un ciclo di quattro drammi musicali di Richard Wagner caratterizzati da un continuum narrativo che si svolge nell’arco di un prologo e di tre “giornate”: L’Oro del Reno “Das Rheingold” (prologo); La Valchiria (prima giornata); Sigfrido (seconda giornata); Il crepuscolo degli dèi (terza giornata) con cui Richard Wagner nel 1876 inaugurò il primo Festival di Beyreuth, ha rappresentato una pagina importante della storia della musica.
In occasione della celebrazione del 150esimo anniversario di quella data sotto la direzione artistica di Kent Nagano e Jan Vogler, direttore artistico del Dresden Music Festival, l’intero ciclo sarà analizzato, provato ed eseguito, oltre che registrato in disco, partendo da quest’anno per arrivare al 2026.
L’intera tetralogia sarà considerata e realizzata, avendo come riferimento il contesto storico del tempo in cui è stata concepita, sulla base delle più recenti scoperte musicologhe e dello studio della pratica esecutiva dell’epoca.
Numerosi gli studiosi coinvolti: per l’approfondimento della pratica vocale del tempo, e della conseguente attenzione alla corretta pronuncia del testo letterario, fino allo studio e alla ricostruzione, o messa in uso, degli strumenti originali.
Il cast di voci che darà vita ai personaggi vedrà coinvolti alcuni dei più affermati interpreti wagneriani della scena internazionale: Simon Bailey (basso), Wotan; Dominik Köninger (basso), Donner; Mauro Peter (tenore), Loge; Tansel Akzeybek (tenore), Froh, Annika Schlicht (mezzosoprano), Fricka; Nadja Mchantaf (soprano), Freia; Gerhild Romberger (contralto), Erda; Daniel Schmutzhard (basso), Alberich; Thomas Ebenstein (tenore), Mime; Christian Immler (basso), Fasolt; Tilmann Rönnebeck (basso), Fafner; Ania Vegry (soprano), Woglinde; Ida Aldrian (soprano), Wellgunde; Eva Vogel (mezzosoprano), Floßhilde.

Villa Rufolo under the sign of Wagner: Rhinegold in full version becomes concert
The gold of the Rhine in concert at the Ravello Festival. On Sunday, August 20th (at 8 p.m.), the Belvedere of Villa Rufolo will welcome the Dresdner Festspielorchester together with Concerto Köln under the baton of Kent Nagano for the high point of the event.
An unprecedented philological version: immediately after the Amalfi Coast event, it will be hosted by the Lucerne Festival – in collaboration with the Dresden Music Festival.
The performance will be preceded by a public meeting on the eve of the event (Saturday, August 19, 7 p.m.) in the Sala dei Cavalieri of Villa Rufolo with Kent Nagano, who, in conversation with the Festival’s artistic director Alessio Vlad, will illustrate the overall project of the “Ring” rereading.
Performing the “Ring” (Der Ring des Nibelungen), also known as the tetralogy, is a cycle of four music dramas by Richard Wagner characterized by a narrative continuum that takes place over a prologue and three “days”. Das Rheingold (Prologue); Die Walküre (First Day); Siegfried (Second Day); and Twilight of the Gods (Third Day)), with which Richard Wagner inaugurated the first Beyreuth Festival in 1876, represents an important page in music history.
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of this date, the entire cycle will be analyzed, rehearsed, performed, and recorded under the artistic direction of Kent Nagano and Jan Vogler, Artistic Director of the Dresden Music Festival, from this year through 2026.
The entire tetralogy will be considered and performed, having as reference the historical context of the time in which it was conceived, based on the most recent musicological discoveries and the study of the performance practice of the time.
Numerous scholars will be involved: for the in-depth study of the vocal practice of the time, and of the consequent attention to the correct pronunciation of the literary text, up to the study and reconstruction, or putting into use, of the original instruments.
