Pasqua con il Don Carlo di Giuseppe Verdi. Lo spettacolo che ha aperto la stagione 2022-23 del Teatro di San Carlo sarà disponibile on demand sulla piattaforma digitale On – Il Teatro delle Culture da domenica 9 aprile 2023 (l costo di euro 4,90 ).
Il capolavoro verdiano è andato in scena al Massimo napoletano lo scorso novembre (foto di Luciano Romano) con la regia di Claus Guth e la direzione di Juraj Valčuha alla guida dell’Orchestra e del Coro.
Nel cast, Michele Pertusi è Filippo II, Matthew Polenzani è impegnato nel ruolo del protagonista Don Carlo, nei panni di Rodrigo Ludovic Tézier, Ailyn Perez è Elisabetta di Valois ed Elīna Garanča, interpreta la Principessa Eboli. Alexander Tsymbalyuk è Il Grande Inquisitore. Maestro del Coro è José Luis Basso.
Spiega il regista: «Nella mia idea di Don Carlo ho focalizzato la mia attenzione sul personaggio principale, seguendo la sua prospettiva. Don Carlo è un personaggio fragile, incapace di far fronte a ciò che la società esige da lui. È un sognatore, più vicino al mondo della fantasia che alla realtà. È e rimane intrappolato nello stesso spazio e questa prigionia descrive la sua condizione nel mondo. Il padre lo rifiuta e la donna che ama diventa sua madre dopo aver sposato Filippo II. Anche Rodrigo, l’unico amico che sembra avere, lo strumentalizza per i suoi scopi. Tutto questo crea in lui una visione oscura del mondo, simile ad una prigione. Con lo svolgersi dei cinque atti, sempre più i personaggi si rivelano nella loro stessa disperazione e solitudine».

Easter with Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo. The show that opened the Teatro di San Carlo’s 2022-23 season will be available on demand on the digital platform On – The Theater of Cultures from Sunday, April 9, 2023 ( it costs 4.90 euros ).
Verdi’s masterpiece was performed at the Neapolitan Massimo last November with Claus Guth directing and Juraj Valčuha conducting the Orchestra and Chorus.
In the cast, Michele Pertusi is Philip II, Matthew Polenzani is engaged in the title role of Don Carlo as Rodrigo Ludovic Tézier, Ailyn Perez is Elisabeth of Valois and Elīna Garanča, plays Princess Eboli. Alexander Tsymbalyuk is The Grand Inquisitor. Master of the Chorus is José Luis Basso.
Explains the director, “In my idea of Don Carlo I focused my attention on the main character, following his perspective. Don Carlo is a fragile character, unable to cope with what society demands of him. He is a dreamer, closer to the world of fantasy than to reality. He is and remains trapped in the same space, and this imprisonment describes his condition in the world. His father rejects him and the woman he loves becomes his mother after marrying Philip II. Even Rodrigo, the only friend he seems to have, exploits him for his own purposes. All this creates in him a dark, prison-like view of the world. As the five acts unfold, more and more of the characters are revealed in their own despair and loneliness.”
