Tutti pazzi per Artemisia. Ed è un febbre c he non accenna a diminuire. La giovane donna che visse il tormento di un processo per stupro, bella e orgogliosa del proprio talento fino a diventare più brava e conosciuta del padre Orazio, è pronta a incantare nuovamente la città del boom turistico con un ritorno eccezionale: quello della sua Maddalena, qui (artisticamente) concepita, nel 1630.
Conservata per secoli in collezioni private, il dipinto era custodito nella collezione Sursock (una delle famiglie più aristocratiche del Libano), a Beirut e venne gravemente colpito nell’ esplosione del 4 agosto 2020. Restaurato grazie all’intervento di Arthemisia, l’opera è tornata a splendere in tutta la sua narrazione pittorica.
Da oggi giovedì 19 luglio fino al 19 gennaio 2025, nei magnifici spazi del Complesso monumentale di Santa Chiara, sarà esposta nella città dove l’artista chiuse il ciclo della sua vita terrena.
La mostra (curata da Costantino D’Orazio) è il primo appuntamento di un ricco programma espositivo che avrà il Complesso monumentale di Santa Chiara come sede di grandi mostre: da aprile 2025, in occasione dell’ottocentesimo anniversario della creazione del Cantico delle Creature, sarà presentata una esposizione dedicata a San Francesco e Santa Chiara.

Santa Chiara/ Damaged by an explosion in Beirut, Artemisia Gentileschi’s Magdalene returns to ots splendor. In the Neapolitan exhibition
All crazy about Artemisia. And it is a fever that shows no signs of diminishing. The young woman who lived through the torment of a rape trial, beautiful and proud of her talent to the point of becoming more successful than her father Horace, is ready to enchant the city of the tourist boom once again with an exceptional return: that of her Magdalene, here (artistically) conceived, in 1630.
Preserved for centuries in private collections, the painting was held in the Sursock collection (one of Lebanon’s most aristocratic families) in Beirut and was badly affected in the August 4, 2020, explosion. Restored thanks to the intervention of Arthemisia, the work has returned to shine in all its pictorial narrative.
From today Thursday, July 19thuntil January 19, 2025, in the magnificent spaces of the Santa Chiara Monumental Complex, it will be on display in the city where the artist closed the cycle of his earthly life.
The exhibition (curated by Costantino D’Orazio) is the first event in a rich exhibition program that will have the Monumental Complex of Santa Chiara as a venue for major exhibitions: from April 2025, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the creation of the Canticle of the Creatures, an exhibition dedicated to St. Francis and St. Clare will be presented.
