Atleta federiciano. Presentata ieri nell’Aula magna del complesso universitario Scampia dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II la prima edizione dell’iniziativa nata per promuovere lo sport e sostenere gli studenti impegnati in attività sportive che richiedono un elevato impegno nella conciliazione della doppia carriera universitaria e sportiva agonistica.
Scherma, canottaggio, tennis, vela, sollevamento pesi, spada, arti marziali, pallanuoto, pallavolo, offshore, rugby, calcio, danza, calcio a 5, salto in lungo, karate, stacco da terra, volley, karate, arti marziali, motor sport, tiro a segno, aerobica, taekwondo, spada, pesca sportiva sono le discipline sportive in cui eccellono i 51 studenti che rientrano in questo programma
La maggior parte studia ingegneria, economia, medicina, informatica e giurisprudenza. Tutti sono abituati allo studio, alla competizione, al sacrificio.
Il successo ad alti livelli nello sport, infatti, richiede allenamenti intensivi e competizioni in patria o all’estero spesso difficili da conciliare con le necessità del sistema educativo.
Spiega Rita Mastrullo, proettrice dell’ateneo: «Così festeggiamo i nostri primi 51 studenti (a loro è stato consegnato del titolo di Atleta federiciano ndr) cui è riconosciuta la doppia carriera, che dà loro l’opportunità di conciliare il proprio impegno sportivo con gli impegni accademici . L’Ateneo un anno fa ha attivato il programma Atleta Federiciano per agevolarli, per non farli rinunciare a un obiettivo e per evitare che mettano in campo degli sforzi personali irragionevoli. Significa dare spazio all’integrazione, all’inclusione, alla diversità, al supporto, a tutti questi valori su cui il nostro Ateneo da sempre ha deciso di puntare e per questo nelle prossime celebrazioni che faremo, per il 799° compleanno della Federico II, ci sarà una giornata dedicata interamente alla comunità studentesca. Una giornata in cui i nostri studenti potranno raccontarsi e parlare delle esperienze in cui riescono a valorizzare le proprie aspirazioni in campo artistico, sportivo, sociale».
A questi atleti si offre la possibilità di agevolare le proprie carriere sia sportive che universitarie attraverso dei tutor che li supportano nello studio, dando loro la possibilità di recuperare le date di esame o di concordare le modalità e le date con i loro professori e di recuperare i corsi obbligatori .
E ricevono anche una borsa di studio. La selezione è avvenuta tramite bando a cui gli studenti hanno partecipato inviando la propria candidatura corredata della carriera universitaria e della carriera atletica. Le domande sono state valutate insieme al CONI e al CIP.
Sottolinea Angela Procida, campionessa mondiale paralimpica, oro mondiale nei 200 stile libero, studentessa di Ingegneria biomedica: « è un progetto fondamentale per noi studenti universitari sportivi perché è necessario mettere al centro la formazione insieme allo sport. Io credo che le due cose siano complementari; non esiste università senza sport e sport senza università. È anche una grande opportunità per metterci alla pari con gli altri paesi esteri dove questa (cultura) è iniziata tanti anni fa. È giusto che in Italia e soprattutto in Campania dove ci sono grandi campioni si inizi a mettere al centro della formazione universitaria anche lo sport».
Angela studia e si allena tanto: dal 10 al 14 maggio sarà a Berlino in coppa del mondo con il nuoto, a fine mese in coppa del mondo in Alabama con il paraciclismo, dal 28 luglio al 5 agosto parteciperà ai mondiali di nuoto a Manchester, dopodiché volerà a Glasgow per i mondiali di paraciclismo. E nel 2024 a Parigi alle Paralimpiadi di ciclismo.
A premiare i talenti federiciani sono stati i coordinatori per il triennio 2022-2025 del programma Atleta Federiciano e componenti della Commissione Atleta Federiciano. Angela Procida, oro mondiale nei 200 stile libero, ha ricevuto la targa dalla professoressa Carmela Cappelli, coordinatore per la Scuola delle Scienze Umane e Sociali.
A chiudere la manifestazione, Carmine Mellone, Presidente del CIP – Comitato Regionale Campania e componente della Commissione, che ha chiamato sul podio l’atleta Olimpionico Alessandro Sibilio, campione europeo Under 23 dei 400 metri ostacoli a Tallinn.
Ma l’università a Scampia accoglierà anche la conferenza stampa venerdì 9 maggio alle 11 (facoltà di Medicna ex Vela H) il concerto “Tutt’egual song’ ‘e criature” . Presentano Gigi e Ross.
Nella stessa occasione, Smean, rappresentata dal suo presidente Raniero Roberti Ricciardi, illustrerà l’intero progetto che ruota attorno al concerto, che guarda al territorio e al sociale. Proprio venerdì 19 verrà infatti inaugurata la mostra fotografica “Mare Dentro”, realizzata dai giovani under 18 del quartiere, studenti dell’istituto scolastico “Ilaria Alpi-Carlo Levi”: Oliviero Toscani, fotoreporter noto in tutto il mondo per le sue campagne di denuncia sociale, svelerà i teli dei suoi scatti dedicati all’adolescenza del quartiere di Scampia, su una superficie di 20.000 mq progettata da Smean e premierà gli scatti fotografici della mostra “Mare Dentro” che verrà allestita negli stessi locali dell’Ateneo a Scampia.
Il concerto si svolgerà sabato 20 maggio, a partire dalle 18, in Piazza Ciro Esposito, adiacente la Villa Comunale a Scampia. S Direttore artistico della kermesse Sigfrido Caccese, fondatore del Neapolis Music Contest. Sul palco, da Clementino a Franco Ricciardi, Enzo Gragnaniello, Pietra Montecorvino, Valentina Stella, Claudia Megrè, A67, Vale Lambo, Nico Beatz, Peppoh e Ortel e molti altri. Non solo musica. Tra gli obiettivi, c’è quello di trasformare un edificio abbandonato del territorio per fondare il primo laboratorio riconosciuto di Urban Art, con corsi di formazione per arti e mestieri, in cui le energie ed il genio creativo dei giovani e delle donne possano essere coltivati.
Prevista anche la promozione di un torneo di calcio per i ragazzi diversamente abili, con la partnership di FIGC. Con la collaborazione della Municipalità 8, nella persona del suo Presidente Nicola Nardella ed il patrocinio morale del Comune di Napoli. Il nome del progetto prende ispirazione dal titolo di una canzone di Enzo Avitabile.

Federico II Athlete. Presented yesterday in the Aula magna of the Scampia University Complex of the University of Naples Federico II, the first edition of the initiative created to promote sports and support students engaged in sports activities that require a high level of commitment in reconciling the dual careers of university and competitive sports.
Fencing, rowing, tennis, sailing, weightlifting, epee, martial arts, water polo, volleyball, offshore, rugby, soccer, dance, five-a-side soccer, long jump, karate, floor-standing, volleyball, karate, martial arts, motor sports, shooting, aerobics, taekwondo, swordplay, and sport fishing are the disciplines in which the 51 students who are part of this program excel
Most are studying engineering, business, medicine, computer science and law. All are accustomed to study, competition, and sacrifice.
Success at high levels in sports, in fact, requires intensive training and competitions at home or abroad that are often difficult to reconcile with the needs of the educational system.
Rita Mastrullo, proctor of the Athenaeum, explains, “This is how we celebrate our first 51 students (they were presented with the title of Federican Athlete ed.) who are recognized with the dual career, which gives them the opportunity to reconcile their sporting and academic commitments . The Athenaeum a year ago activated the Atleta Federiciano program to facilitate them, to keep them from giving up a goal and to prevent them from putting in unreasonable personal efforts. It means giving space to integration, to inclusion, to diversity, to support, to all these values that our University has always decided to focus on, and that’s why in the next celebrations that we’re going to do, for the 799th birthday of the Federico II, there will be a day dedicated entirely to the student community. A day in which our students will be able to tell their stories and talk about the experiences in which they manage to enhance their aspirations in the artistic, sporting and social fields.”
These athletes are offered the opportunity to facilitate their careers in both sports and academia through tutors who support them in their studies, giving them the opportunity to make up exam dates or arrange terms and dates with their professors and make up required courses .
They also receive a scholarship. Selection was through a call for applications to which students participated by sending their applications accompanied by their college and athletic careers. The applications were evaluated together with CONI and CIP.
Angela Procida, a Paralympic world champion, world gold medalist in the 200 freestyle, and a student of biomedical engineering, emphasizes, ” This is a fundamental project for us university sports students because it is necessary to put education together with sports at the center. I believe that the two are complementary; there is no university without sports and sports without universities. It is also a great opportunity to put us on par with other foreign countries where this (culture) started so many years ago. It’s right that in Italy and especially in Campania where there are great champions we start to put sports at the center of university education as well.”
Angela studies and works out a lot: from May 10 to 14 she will be in Berlin at the World Cup with swimming, at the end of the month at the World Cup in Alabama with para-cycling, from July 28 to August 5 she will participate in the World Swimming Championships in Manchester, after which she will fly to Glasgow for the World Para-cycling Championships. And in 2024 in Paris at the Paralympics in cycling.
Awarding the Federiciano talents were the coordinators for the three-year period 2022-2025 of the Federiciano Athlete program and members of the Federiciano Athlete Commission. Angela Procida, world gold medalist in the 200 freestyle, received the plaque from Professor Carmela Cappelli, coordinator for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Carmine Mellone, president of CIP – Campania Regional Committee and member of the Commission closed the event, calling on the podium Olympic athlete Alessandro Sibilio, European Under 23 400-meter hurdles champion in Tallinn.

The concert will take place on Saturday, May 20, starting at 6 p.m. in Piazza Ciro Esposito, adjacent to the Villa Comunale in Scampia. Not just music. Among the goals is to transform an abandoned building in the area to establish the first recognized Urban Art workshop, with training courses for arts and crafts, where the energy and creative genius of young people and women can be cultivated.
Also planned is the promotion of a soccer tournament for differently abled boys, with the partnership of FIGC. With the collaboration of Municipality 8, in the person of its President Nicola Nardella and the moral patronage of the City of Naples. The name of the project is inspired by the title of a song by Enzo Avitabile.
