Chiude con una star internazionale il Campania Teatro Festival, diretto da Ruggero Cappuccio. Tra i protagonisti dei 7 spettacoli programmati fino a domenica 9 luglio, c’è John Malkovich (ph. Gio Kardava), che alle 21 domani (sabato 8) e dopodomani (alle 19), sarà in scena al Politeama di Napoli con l’attrice lituana Ingeborga Dapkunaite per il testo di Koltès “In the solitude of cotton fields”. La regia è di Timofey Kuliabyn: lo spettacolo è in lingua inglese con sovrattitoli in italiano.
Una storia che sembra semplice, ma in realtà è molto complessa: in una strada buia, un venditore cerca di proporre la sua merce, non è specificato cosa, a un acquirente. Un’opera, scritta nel 1985, dove il tentativo di transazione assume via via significati sempre più profondi.
Spiega il regista: «Il testo di Koltès è molto denso, verboso, pieno di allusioni, immagini poetiche e complessi intrecci. L’autore sembra voler confondere lo spettatore piuttosto che aiutarlo a comprendere il conflitto. Non è immediatamente chiaro allo spettatore (come al lettore, magari dopo aver letto il testo una sola volta) che l’oggetto del commercio sia la lussuria sessuale. Poiché entrambi i personaggi sono maschi, capiamo che si tratta di un’opera omoerotica. Ed entrambi gli uomini devono confessare la loro lussuria. Tuttavia, né l’uno né l’altro vogliono chiamare le cose con il loro vero nome, parlano a vuoto e ci appare chiaro che questa disputa non si risolverà. Oggi, il tema della lussuria proibita, non detta, ma irresistibile, deve essere rivelato in modo diverso. Il nostro spettacolo parla di perversione sessuale, di un desiderio nascosto che è punibile, riconosciuto come criminale da qualsiasi società, secondo le leggi di oggi».
Ingeborga Dapkūnaite e John Malkovich fanno parte dell’incubo di qualcuno, che non è presente in scena. E questo qualcuno vive in una terribile disarmonia interna perché ha capito che il suo desiderio sessuale è di natura criminale. Ma è la sua natura e non può combatterla. Vorrebbe ammetterlo a sé stesso, ma non può, perché è spaventoso e pericoloso. Siamo di fronte a un uomo che lotta senza sosta con sé stesso. È una proiezione della sua coscienza, un incubo in cui cerca costantemente di venire a patti con sé stesso. Per questo motivo, si presenta con questi due personaggi, il venditore e l’acquirente. Due entità in lotta.
Gli attori cambieranno ruolo durante la rappresentazione. E piano piano emerge la dimensione della rappresentazione: si tratta di un monologo interiore. Sul palco, anche 5 videografi che lavorano online. Ci saranno effetti video, con primi piani dei volti di Dapkūnaite e Malkovich .
Il Campania Teatro Festival è finanziato dalla Regione Campania e riceve un contributo annuo del ministero della cultura per il suo schema multidisciplinare.

The Campania Teatro Festival, directed by Ruggero Cappuccio, will end with an international star. Among the stars of the seven shows scheduled through Sunday, July 9, is John Malkovich, who at 9 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, July 8) and the day after (7 p.m.), will be on stage at the Politeama in Naples with Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkunaite in Koltès’ “In the Solitude of Cotton Fields,” directed by Timofey Kuliabyn, in English with Italian surtitles.
A story that seems simple: on a dark street, a salesman tries to offer his wares, it is not specified what, to a buyer. A work, written in 1985, where the attempted transaction gradually takes on deeper and deeper meanings.
Explains the director, “Koltes’s text is very dense, verbose, full of allusions, poetic imagery, and complex plots. The author seems to want to confuse the viewer rather than help him or her to understand the conflict. It is not immediately clear to the viewer (as it is to the reader, perhaps after reading the text only once) that the object of the trade is sexual lust. Because both characters are males, we understand that this is a homoerotic play. And both men must confess their lust. However, neither wants to call things by their real names, they talk in circles, and it becomes clear to us that this dispute will not be resolved. Today, the theme of forbidden, unspoken but irresistible lust must be revealed in a different way. Our play is about sexual perversion, a hidden desire that is punishable, recognized as criminal by any society, according to today’s laws.”
Ingeborga Dapkūnaite and John Malkovich are part of someone’s nightmare, who is not present in the scene. He lives in terrible internal disharmony because he has realized that his sexual desire is criminal in nature. Two struggling entities.
The actors will change roles throughout the play. And slowly the dimension of the play emerges: in fact, it is an inner monologue. On stage, also 5 videographers working online. There will be video effects, with close-ups of the faces of Dapkūnaite and Malkovich .
