Napoli svela i suoi tesori. Tra questi, il teatro romano dell’Anticaglia (foto). Fino a gennaio 2025, infatti il progetto “Il teatro tra le mura” propone
aperture straordinarie e percorsi guidati gratuiti del sito, arricchendo ulteriormente l’offerta culturale della città.
L’operazione di scavo e valorizzazione del teatro ha preso il via nel 2023 con fondi del Grande Progetto Centro storico di Napoli valorizzazione sito Unesco– Fondo Sviluppo e Coesione Regione Campania, commissionata
dal Comune di Napoli, dall’assessorato all’urbanistica, area trasformazione Urbana e Politiche dell’Abitare. L’iniziativa è curata dalla Soprintendenza archeologia Belle arti e paesaggio.
Ne è emersa un’ampia porzion della cavea, rendendo possibile una stima delle dimensioni e della capienza dell’intera struttura paragonabile a quella dei teatri medio-grandi della Campania, capaci di accogliere fino a 5mila spettatori.
Nel corso del tempo, il teatro ha subito interventi di restauro, di cui sono ancora visibili gli archi in laterizio lungo via Anticaglia; progressivamente abbandonato e coperto, il sito ha finito con l’integrarsi nel tessuto urbanistico cittadino, fino all’avvio dei lavori di recupero e riqualificazione.
Sarà possibile prenotare il proprio ingresso tramite la piattaforma Eventbrite, e partecipare all’esperienza di una visita “archeologica” al cantiere tuttora in corso, nel quale è stato individuato un percorso che consentirà di ammirare le strutture rinvenute e scoprire la storia del complesso, la cui parte attualmente visibile è datata alla fine del I secolo
d.C.
Le visite saranno condotte da archeologi professionisti della società Apoikia, in collaborazione con l’impresa Samoa.

Within the walls/ The city unveils the Anticaglia Theater. Special openings and visits
Naples reveals its treasures. Among them is the Roman Theatre of Anticaglia. In fact, until January 2025, the project “The Theatre within the Walls” offers extraordinary openings and free guided tours of the site, enriching the city’s cultural offer.
The operation to excavate and enhance the theater began in 2023 with funds from the Grand Project Historic Center of Naples Unesco Site Enhancement- Development and Cohesion Fund Campania Region, commissioned by the City of Naples Department of Town Planning, Urban Transformation Area and Housing Policy. The initiative is curated by the Soprintendenza archeologia Belle arti e paesaggio.
A large part of the cavea has been uncovered, making it possible to estimate the size and capacity of the entire structure, comparable to that of medium-sized theaters in Campania, capable of accommodating up to 5,000 spectators.
Over time, the theater underwent restoration works, of which the brick arches along via Anticaglia are still visible; gradually abandoned and covered over, the site was finally integrated into the urban fabric of the city, until the start of recovery and restoration works.
Through the Eventbrite platform, you can book your ticket and take part in an “archaeological” visit to the site, which is still in progress. A route has been set out to allow you to admire the structures found and discover the history of the complex, the part of which currently visible dates back to the end of the first century AD.
The tours are carried out by professional archaeologists of the company Apoikia, in collaboration with the company Samoa.
